Canoeing is a hugely diverse sport, providing opportunities for recreation & competition, adventure & challenge, excitement & thrills, exploration & touring, education & enjoying the environment. Canoeing offers something for everyone. It appeals to a wide range of individual tastes, ages & abilities across a host of different communities & environments.

The word canoe comes from the Carib kenu (dugout), via the Spanish canoa.Constructed between 8200 and 7600 BC, and found in the Netherlands, the Pesse canoe may be the oldest known canoe

Tourists have long flocked to the one-mile stretch of The Cam known as the ‘Backs’, which passes beneath the beautiful architecture of the university’s majestic college buildings. During the busy summer months, the river is a bustling hive of activity with rowing crews and canoes and kayaks joining the traditional Cambridge Punts on the still waters.
